Here is what we are aiming for with our OPK's ladies - ultimately the test line needs to be as dark as or darker than the control line. On all tests the control line will be the furthest away from the part you pee on or dip into pee (unless you are using the digital OPKs or the Smiley Face OPKs, then you just go by the digital readout).

* pee end!
* test line (positive OPK)
* control line (less dark than the test line)
This is a great example of a progression of OPK's from CD 7 onwards. The gradual buildup of LH eventually led to a positive OPK on CD 13 with ovulation 2 days later. Thanks to i-am-pregnant.com member ArcticArlz for providing the picture and a huge CONGRATS to her, as she wound up with a BFP on this cycle!
An example to demonstrate that an OPK can go from clearly negative to clearly positive in just one day! (Thanks to 'Firsttimer' from IAP for this submission - note: This cycle turned into a BFP before AF was due! See "BFP's by Brand")
Answer OPK. You can see that on CD 13, it's close to positive, but not quite. CD 14 was a clear positive. Congrats to 'Phoenix' from i-am-pregnant.com as this positive OPK led to a nice BFP!
"TryingAgain09" from IAP has kindly sent me her photos of her OPK progression for the month! Talk about detailed, this is as good as it gets! "Trying" has had the last four days of OPKs show up positive (only the last now really appears positive, the other three have faded slightly as can happen with OPKs). She works shift work and had a 10 month old, so backing up the OPKs with BBT is not possible! My feeling is she's had a long, late surge, and will indeed ovulate within 24 - 36 hours of her last positive OPK. The fear is she will ovulate and have a short luteal phase. We'll know for sure if AF arrives in 10 days or less. A short luteal phase does not mean implantation is impossible, but it can hinder it for sure. If you have positive OPKs for more than four days in a row, in back to back months, perhaps schedule an appointment with your doctor to have blood drawn to check for luteal phase defect/hormone imbalance. NOTE: it is not uncommon to have a random cycle from time to time with late ovulation and late AF! No matter how regular you are, an odd cycle can hit at any time! GOOD LUCK TRYING AGAIN 09!!
These OPKs are ACON professional ovulation test cassettes (They have just changed their name to InstAlert.) TryingAgain09 will send a leaflet too to help explain how the tests work. They cost £25 (about $40 - 50 Can/US) for 40 cassettes: http://www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk/acatalog/40_Ovulation_Test_Cassette.html

Dollar Tree OPK

Check out the lovely progression of OPKs sent in by nununoodle (thanks!). She had started with OPKs from the Dollar Tree, and backed them up with ClearBlue (quality assurance). You can see on the ClearBlue and Dollar Tree OPK that CD 16 was very close to positive - CD 17 is absolutely positive! Based on this, ovulation should occur by CD 18 - 20. This comparison shows the Dollar Tree OPKs to be reliable! What do you think? Share your experiences on the comment boards!

Internet Cheepie OPKs backed up by the ClearBlue Digital 'smiley face OPK' - When in doubt, back up your surge with the smiley face! It will last 8 minutes, and a box of seven should cost you under $30.
Thanks to fallenangel32 from IAP for the pics! This is a great progression to show how in the middle og the cycle, her LH surged, but not enough to get the egg moving - she kept up the OPKs and by CD 31 a second surge happened - she ovulated and about 10 days later got her BFP! CONGRATS!! Thanks for the pics ;)
