Note: This section just has some general comments on different pregnancy tests. In general, people are quick to report complaints, and less likely to send in positive comments. This information should be read with that in mind.

First Response Early Result: is a test that claims you can test before your period is due. There is an article on the First Response web site saying the test can read a level of 6.3. Several people report false-positives, faulty tests, and several who have been pleased with early and very early detection . This test won't work for everyone because implantation (6-12 dpo) needs to occur before one will get a positive result. Scored highest on the Consumer Reports 2003 ranking of home tests.

EQUATE: The older test had a significant online reputation for false positives, while the newer test, manufactured by LifeCare, appears as reliable as most other brands (most brands get some reports of false positives). The main comment the test still gets is to beware of evaporation lines and read the test, like all brands, within the time limit listed in the instructions.

Evaporation lines are reported with many brands, and should be considered normal for home pregnancy tests. This is why tests should be read within the time specified within the instructions. Inverness Medical tests different brands, AimStick, and dBest. Clearblue/ClearPlan report white lines where the result should appear, or a gray line without colored dye should be should not be considered a positive result and require retesting.

Any confusing test (ghost line, disappearing positive, gray line) result warrants retesting.

NOTE: the initial wash of fluid through a test may make it look positive at first, but show accurately negative when the test is complete.

NOTE: Many brands can in fact detect a lower hCG level their published sensitivity.

Lifesign1: is available by mail order only from Geodesic Meditech This test could detect hCG levels of 5-20 mIU within 7 minutes. So, a positive within 7 minutes indicates that hCG was detected, but you should not read the test after 7 minutes. After 7 minutes that dye can break through and you may see an evaporation line. The test is now listed as reading down to 15 mIU.
_______

Accu-Clear (Inverness)
Note: Inverness produces most of the tests that are sold as generic in stores. Digital tests that are generic are all Inverness, which is the parent company of Clearblue, and are identical to the Clearblue Easy Digital Test.

Early Pregnancy Test   (E.P.T) 40
*News:* False positive reported on July 16, 2009. Blood hCG revealed the line was not a positive.
Review: Easy to read instructions (which includes diagram).   More accurate the closer you are towards your expected period. This test possibly should be taken the day of or after your missed period since its sensitivity only measure about 40mIU of hCG.
Another great thing about the E.P.T Pregnancy Test is that it has a separate control window which makes it easier to read and helps the user not mix up any readings.
